Almost 50 years ago, 66 people were crushed to death at a soccer game in Scotland. A late goal — not a game-winner, mind you, but a game-tying goal — set off a crazy celebration. In that celebration, as the 80,000 jubilant fans were exiting the stadium, an epic pile-up was somehow triggered that left 66 people dead and hundreds more injured. No structural collapse or anything like that — just a giant wave of people trying to leave that ended up smashing people to death.
Seems like something every sports fan would know about, but this was our first time reading about it.
